Abstract:

This presentation reviews latest scientific conference reports on the cutting edge research in computer security. It presents and explains 2009 highlights from such top world annual research conferences as IEEE Symposium in Security and Privacy, ACM Conference in Computer and Communications Security (CCS), Symposium on Network and Distributed Systems Security (NDSS), Symposium on Usable Privacy and Security (SOUPS), ACM Symposium on Access Control Models and Technologies (SACMAT), New Security Paradigms Workshop (NSPW). For those who missed any of these venues in 2009, it provides an opportunity to catch up with the developments in the computer security technologies. The attendees will gain an understanding in the intuition behind latest technological advancements.

Speaker Bio:

Konstantin Beznosov (http://www.ece.ubc.ca/~beznosov) is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the University of British Columbia, where he directs the Laboratory for Education and Research in Secure Systems Engineering. His research interests are distributed systems security, usable security, secure software engineering, and access control. Prior UBC, he was a Security Architect at Hitachi Computer Products (America) and Concept Five. Besides many academic papers on security engineering in distributed systems, he is also a co-author of “Enterprise Security with EJB and CORBA” and “Mastering Web Services Security” books, as well as XACML and several CORBA security specifications.

On-site registration and networking begins at noon, and lunch will be served at approximately 12:20. The presentation will run from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, to be followed by an open discussion forum. Members and non-members of the ISSA are welcome but space is limited. Cost for the event is $35.00 for non-members, $25.00 for ISSA members and $20.00 for students payable in advance at our web site using PaypalŪ, or at the door in cash or by cheque payable to “ISSA Vancouver”. RSVP to to guarantee your seat. Please note that we require 72 hours notice of any cancellations, or you will be invoiced for the event since we are required to finalize the food orders.
