Changing business environment and it's impact on security

How the changing business environment has lessened the effectiveness of traditional security mechanisms

This session will talk about how the changing business environment, specifically the increases in enterprise to enterprise connectivity, has lessened the effectiveness of traditional security mechanisms. The Speaker Stephen Whitlock, will discuss some methods of restoring defenses that result in a new overall IT security architecture. The Speaker Stephen Whitlock will also cover the formation, goals and information available from the Jericho Forum, which arose a few years ago in response to the same pressures.

Stephen Whitlock, is Chief Security Architect for The Boeing Company. He has written numerous papers and presented information on cryptography, UNIX systems, and network security to a wide variety of audiences, including an encryption strategy for large, multi-platform enterprise environments, which was presented to the U.S. Office of Science and Technology Policy, the National Security Council, and the FBI. He has been instrumental in the development of technical standards relating to computing security technologies and has been an active participant in the Internet Engineering Task Force, Key Recovery Alliance, Jericho Forum, and The Open Group. As the chair of the Open Group's Security and Electronic Commerce Program Group, he led the development of several standards, including the Common Data Security Architecture, and Advanced Authorization API. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Open Group Security Forum and a member of the Board of Management of the Jericho Forum.

On-site registration and networking begins at noon, and lunch will be served at approximately 12:15. The presentation will run from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, to be followed by an open discussion forum. Members and non-members of the ISSA are welcome but space is limited.
